The eye is captivated and fascinated by the shadow play that can occur when the sunlight gleams through the branches of the trees and forms flickering patterns. In my work, I discovered by chance a similar transformation into a world drawn with light and shadow. With light and shadow, it can create evocative motifs that play with the eye's ability to decode foreground and background and to sharpen and detect motifs and shapes. The transitions between layers of light and shadow, creates a gradation in different tones of color.
I am working to find the balance between the total resolution of the subject on one side and the sharp cut clear subject on the other. I am preoccupied with the balance between the immediately friendly, beautiful and poetic as opposed to the tense, peculiar and incomprehensible. I am drawn to the tension between contradictions - the abstract to the figurative, the feminine to the masculine, the strong to the weak, the light to the dark.
